University is an unincorporated census-designated place (CDP) located in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 41,163, up from 30,736 at the 2000 census. The community is situated just northwest of the University of South Florida, which is located within the Tampa city limits.

Geography and Boundaries:

University CDP is bounded by Interstate 275 to the west, Tampa city limits (including the University of South Florida) to the south and east, and Sinclair Hills Road to the north. Historically, the boundaries stretched as far east as Morris Bridge Road, but they were reduced due to annexations by Tampa and Temple Terrace in the 1980s. The CDP includes the area known as Nowatney.

Economy and Amenities:

University Mall, a shopping center located at the southern end of the community, was the main economic driver for the area during the 1970s and 1980s. However, many of the mall's businesses have been replaced by stand-alone shops along Fowler and Fletcher Avenues, including Walmart, Target, and numerous fast food establishments.
