There are several types of gutters, including aluminum, vinyl, steel, and copper gutters. Aluminum gutters are lightweight, rust-resistant, and available in various colors. Vinyl gutters are easy to install and very affordable but may not hold up as well in very cold climates. Steel gutters are sturdier and more durable but can rust over time. Copper gutters are highly durable and develop a protective patina, but they are more expensive.
Gutters should be cleaned at least twice a year, usually in the spring and fall. However, if your property is surrounded by trees, you might need to clean them more frequently to prevent clogs from leaves and debris.
Signs that your gutters need attention include sagging, pulling away from the house, visible cracks or holes, peeling paint, rust spots, and water damage or water marks beneath the gutters. If you notice any of these issues, it's important to address them promptly to avoid more extensive damage.
While it's possible to install some types of gutters yourself if you’re either really handy and have all the tools or have professional experience beforehand, it’s a really bad idea. Hiring a professional is recommended for a host of reasons. Professionals have the experience, tools, and knowledge to ensure that gutters are installed correctly, which is crucial for the protection of your home. Not to mention that if you install them slightly wrong, you can easily create a huge repair bill for yourself, and if you misplace your foot one time you can fall and break every bone in your body. Even a fall from 8’ can severely injure or kill you, so we would sincerely urge you to let experienced professionals take that risk for you.
Gutter guards are designed to block debris from entering the gutter while allowing water to flow through. They can significantly reduce the need for gutter cleaning. While the initial investment may seem high, gutter guards can save time and money in the long run by preventing clogged gutters and potential water damage.
Regular cleaning and inspections are the best ways to maintain your gutters. Ensure that you clear any debris, leaves, and obstructions at least twice a year. Additionally, check for any signs of wear and tear such as cracks, rust, and detachment from the house. Consider installing gutter guards to minimize maintenance needs.
Yes, clogged gutters can lead to several issues, including water damage to your roof, siding, foundation, and landscaping. When gutters are clogged, water can overflow and seep into areas it shouldn't, potentially causing costly damage.
The average cost of gutter installation in Florida is around $4-$7 per linear foot for materials like aluminum or galvanized steel. For a typical 2,400 sq ft home, this comes to $900-$1,500 for installation.
The best gutters for Florida are seamless aluminum or copper gutters. They are durable, low-maintenance, and can withstand the heavy rains and humidity in Florida better than sectional gutters.
Well-maintained gutters can last 20-30 years in Florida's climate. Proper installation, using quality materials, and regular cleaning/maintenance are key for longevity.
Yes, gutters are highly recommended for homes in Florida to control water flow from heavy rains and prevent foundation issues, basement flooding, landscaping erosion, etc.
The cost to install seamless gutters in Florida typically ranges from $900 to $3,000 depending on the home's size and gutter material (aluminum, copper, etc.).
For Florida's heavy rainfall, 6-inch gutters are recommended over 5-inch to handle higher water volumes. However, 5-inch can suffice for some homes depending on the roof size/pitch.
Gutters should be cleaned at least once a year, possibly twice for homes with many trees nearby, to prevent clogs and ensure proper drainage.
Well-installed, properly maintained gutters can increase a home's value by protecting the roof, siding, foundation and landscaping from water damage over time.
One of the worst feelings out there is thinking back on something costly or painful that happened to you or someone, or something, you loved and realizing there was an easy way to prevent it all along - only had you known!
Unfortunately, that is precisely the feeling many homeowners feel when thinking back on what they could have done to avoid the huge repair bill their roofer, siding contractor, or foundation company just handed them.
The good news is now that you're here, you're going to know what you can do to avoid that bill, and in Florida's climate, a big part of that is your gutter system.
1. The Guardians of Your Foundation! Gutters work by channeling water from your home, and one of the key benefactors is your home's foundation. Without gutters, downspouts, and proper drainage, rainwater will steadily erode the soil around your home.
That's only where it starts, though. Soon, as the soil erodes, the support system your foundation relies on will also slip away. As pockets of space get created, your foundation will begin to experience huge forces it wasn't meant for.
Soon enough, doors will stop closing properly, siding will start cracking, walls will sink, and you're going to have a foundation contractor coming out to quote you on a major repair.
2. Preventing Roof Damage: Unless you have a flat roof, from the moment rain water hits your roof its number one goal is to get it away from your house ASAP. Divert to the edges, get it away.
The more water sitting on your roof (or around or under your home) the lighter your wallet is going to be. Your roof will divert rainwater to your gutters and from that point on, it's your gutter system's job to channel it away from your home, but if it can't - due to some poor installation, clogging, or another issue - it gets backed up. Water fills your gutters and sits on your roof.
This is the worst case scenario - as your roof is not built to be a pool, it's built to be an umbrella. Effective against rain, but not against a flood. When that water sits there long enough, or enough times, it works its way through your roof, into your structure, down your walls, and then it's only a matter of time before mold sets in, leaks get worse.
Modern structures are not built to handle water intrusion well - everything is focused on keeping water out, and your gutters are part of your first line defense, so it's imperative to keep them working.

The CDP includes the area known as Nowatney.
Economy and Amenities:
University Mall, a shopping center located at the southern end of the community, was the main economic driver for the area during the 1970s and 1980s.
